Musical Direction, Fayçal Karoui
The Orchester de Pau Pays de Béarn has been in existence for nearly twenty years. But, it is with the arrival of a titular chief, Fayçal Karoui, in January 2002 that everything changes and accelerates. Another dimension and other ambitions open to the Orchester de Pau to boost classical music and arouse youth, the desire for the concert. Fayçal Karoui, the thirty charming, proves that musical emotion is within the reach of all.
His prize of conducting just obtained, he won the Aida scholarship that allows him to work with the National Orchestra of Toulouse Capitol with Michel Plasson, who very quickly asked him to become his assistant. This new experience allowed him to access a wide lyrical repertoire, not only for the Théâtre du Capitole, but also for the Théâtre du Châtelet, or Chorégies d’Orange. The following year, finalist of the conductor competition in Besançon, his career was launched and he has since been conducting the Orchester de Paris, the National Orchestra of Lille, Toulouse, Montpellier, Monte Carlo …
At the head of the Pau Pays de Béarn Orchestra, he gives classical music his rightful place in the south of Aquitaine and in Spain, around various and varied programs where great soloists and young talents rub shoulders for an informed, familiar public. auditoriums or for a neophyte audience, culturally removed from symphonic music.
“To bring music wherever it can be heard” is the permanent will of the Pau Pays de Béarn Orchestra. The orchestra has developed an original approach towards young audiences, general rehearsals, the presence of children in the orchestra, opera for and by schoolchildren in sensitive areas. The Orchestra also plays once a year at the prison and in hospital.
The will of the Pau Pays de Béarn Orchestra is also to offer the public the music of our time. Since 2002, at each symphonic concert, a new musical work is proposed and presented with the presence of the composer. The audience of the Orchestra, with its 1,400 subscribers, was the first in France to place a current music order for its Orchestra through a subscription (“La Nef des fous” by K.Beffa).
With 55 professional musicians, the Pau Pays de Béarn Orchestra launches a new challenge to prove to everyone that “music is not only a universal language, it is also a promotion of personality, an opening to aesthetics, a vision of life more radiant “(André Labarrère)
