Fragment (θραύσμα)

FRAGMENT (ΘΡΑΎΣΜΑ)

30′ – 2013
Chamber music

Expressing a musical idea briefly is a dangerous exercise, while it is common in the pictorial practice. Apart from a few composers who have achieved the absolute substance of musical material such as Kurtag or Webern, music, “art of time,” has always needed “space” to be developped. When I started thinking about DissonArt’s proposal, two paths opened up; the first consisted in writing a piece expressing a trajectory, a closed space, a gesture; the other to write a piece with its deployment in time, and stops. A kind of annoyed, aborted form. A third way appeared to me which I followed: isolate a fragment (reworked and transcribed for DissionArt) of a play to come, written but not created, a fragment in the work space, a scrap of life, to the edge of fate
