HAMED UND SHERIFA

HAMED UND SHERIFA

55′ – 2019
opera

Princess Sherifa is shocked: Hamed, the mighty king of the neighboring kingdom, out of rage banished all women except his mother from his kingdom. Sherifa, dressed as Prince Sherif, travels to Hamed – and the king is confused: is this really a prince? The king’s mother advises to put Sherif to the test. Is the “prince” the samples? King Hamed has to wonder what is typically male and female. With a wink, Hamed and Sherifa unmask patterns of thinking and behavior: Are only men strong and love football? Is courage and honor also women’s business?

The Lebanese composer Zad Moultaka, a master of musical humor, composed one of the most-played and most up-to-date children’s operas. He combines what we know as classical western music with the traditional sounds of his oriental homeland: musically the best of different cultures is united.
