Sirène

SIRÈNE

15 – 2015
a capella voice

This event is a step in the project process Priority Voices initiated by Musicatreize in partnership with Cultures du Coeur. At the initiative of Musicatreize, Zad Moultaka composes a work bringing together the soloists of Musicatreize and amateur performers from the priority area of Marseille. They will be fully integrated into the process of creating a contemporary work: they will experience all aspects, from the birth of the work to its performance on stage and recording.

The operation took place as part of the Sirènes et midi net
the urban ritual of Lieux Publics, national center of creation for the forecourt of the Opéra de Marseille.

On the first Wednesday of the month, the sirens of the civil security resound throughout France. Starting from a serious inaudible, they slide slowly until reaching a medium ground (not very fair), then back down, up, shift with the other sirens that return other heights. The most moving is the last descent, the sound is gradually lost in the serious and the urban rumor that takes its rights after disappearing from our ears, masked by more powerful than it should be. And this rustling of the city, to which one never pays attention, becomes clear, familiar, and even sympathetic.
Since March 2003, stemming from all the currents of the musical and artistic invention of today, the artists offer us a piece of 12 minutes which is tasted only the 1st Wednesday of the month, at noon. Every month, at least 300 people enjoy meeting the artist for a break of 15 minutes. Playing on the urban space sound, dedicated to the spectacles and the creation of a new ritual, Sirène and Midi Net is a true living manifesto which imposes itself to all the passers and residents of the city center.

This ritual is supported by SACEM and the support of the Opéra de Marseille.

Constants and variants

Has the siren that once reverberated every month over the roofs of French cities become a relegated object in the memory drawer? Does it still have a meaning, a resonance within our modern society?

On June 3, 2015, twenty men and women, gathered by the Musicatreize ensemble, will offer themselves and enter the circle to a kind of ritual, prompting us by the strident sound of this “animal” to remain awake, like the rattlesnake among the Amerindians, and to penetrate the circle. In this case, the place of the Opera de Marseille …

Dignified shouting and poignant texts, stamping their feet on the ground, as if the earth is on vibration, they will invite the singers of Musicatreize to join them in this ceremony and to sing, like a flamenco saeta, an intimate, multiple song to exorcise the pain and suffering that are hitting hard some categories of our society.
