Zad Moultaka: “Parietal art has given us so many signs and figures opening up questions about our distant ancestors. Despite the enigmas, many drawings and bas-reliefs still fascinate us and bring us, bits of information on their life style and their relationship to the world that, I am convinced, was invaded by spirituality and irrigated by the sacred. So many signs and figures discovered but no sound! Just few flutes, the most old known to this day, has been found in the cave of Hohle Fels just 170 Km far from…Münich! A wonderful coincidence of an exhibition of ‘sign’ and ‘ imaginary sounds’, that leads to enigmas, still unreal, about the musical practices and the rituals of our relatives 35,000 years ago. A sacred atmosphere emerges from this sound and visual experience, recalling the mysterious invasion felt during my visit into the Chauvet cave, in 20017. The space is in a beautiful darkness. The atmosphere is soft and a feeling of contemplation immerses the visitor. Black and white engravings are on the walls all around the central space in which seven columns are scattered. Each column acts as pedestals on which are placed plexiglass boxes containing an object (sculpture) in plaster or other, evoking a piece of an imaginary thousand-year-old instrument. A light illuminates each relic in a magical way. Each instrument has its own sound that diffuses from the very interior of each box. The sounds of about ten seconds each, will be triggered in turn by hearing a musical fragment. Sometimes two or more fragments are activated at the same time. When the seven fragments are played at the same time, harmonious music will fill the space, revealing a kind of “reconstructed” archaeological score.
