Cinq haïkus

CINQ HAÏKUS

8′ – 2012
for viola and voice

These Cinq haïkus are poems written by women They are treated by the composer in a short, even lightning way and explore a range of sound, timbre and rhythm possibilities around both instruments alto voice and viola. This reminds us of Kurtag’s forms in brief. Fleeting moments, excitement, hints… Another image could arise like Berio’s folksongs, since these miniatures are shaped and dance like Cathy Berberian’s shadow … Yet no borrowing from tradition here. Rather a cycle of new melodies that would have been invited in the way of Pirandello’s characters.
