La Passion selon Marie / Hachô dyôldat Alôhô

LA PASSION SELON MARIE

70′ – 2011
for choir

Hachô dyôldat Alôhô literally means the Passion according to the mother of God in Syriac. Zad Moultaka chose to treat the sublime theme of the Passion of Christ. The story takes shape through the look of a mother who remembers. This prism makes it possible to restore the experience of Mary where emotion, suffering and dignity mingle.

The Lebanese composer goes back here along his Eastern Christian memory. He explores Baroque instruments through this central theme, magnified from East to West, and its exceptionally dramatic dimension.

Here the story is that of the mother, Mary, where emotion, suffering and dignity are mixed.
The texts are sung in Syriac, borrowed from the Gospels, more recent poems and some anonymous writings of the Tradition.

From the chorus of turba emerged some soloists: those of Mary Magdalene, Judas, Peter, John …

The combination of a Baroque instrumental ensemble and a choir broken with the contemporary repertoire serves as a showcase for the deep, warm and suave voice of María Cristina Kiehr incarnating here the mother of Christ in her sorrow and splendor.
