MACEGHJA

05′ – 2015
a capella voice

In Maceghja, the composer is inspired by the poem Pagliaghju by Ghjuvan Petru Ristori, poet and improviser. Pagliaghju means the mulch, for the ancestors an important thing, a dry stone hut.

Son of this place, observe / Perched, sunny / What will soon be a ruin … Act, it is no longer time to sleep / Show that you are the worthy heir … When he will raise a building / Do not rejoice : it will not be for you …

The MUTAZIONE project by Denis Gautherie: A few years ago, the Soli-Tutti vocal ensemble had the chance to share musical creations with musicians from Casa Musicale de Pigna. Together or separately, we sang in Calvi, Corbara, Bastia, Corte, Ajaccio, Bonifacio … also in Brittany, in Paris and during a tour in Brazil. We kept a very strong memory of these musical adventures which allowed us to discover the wealth of the Corsican heritage and artistic creation as well as its universality. During a recent friendly visit to Pigna, we rediscovered the work of Toni Casalonga and more particularly the series of paintings “7 quistioni” which inspired the poet Ghjuvan Petru Ristori.
Their collaboration has been published in a collection edited by Albiana, with an introductory note by Toni explaining this questioning to the “mutation” that assails us. I then asked Toni Casalonga to ask seven composers, among those whom we have met in recent years, who seem to share with us this questioning and our interest in Mediterranean cultures, to compose each one in their own way a “song each on one of the 7 poems”,  as an exterior and curious polyphonic look put on the images and poetry of today’s Corsican culture. It is a question of bringing together these musics, these paintings and these texts in a show which will mix voice and images and which will be created by the singers of Soli-Tutti at Casa Musicale de Pigna and presented in several cities of Corsica in October 2015.
