Pas un bruit

PAS UN BRUIT

15′ – 2015
for orchestra

No noise.

Only the gondoliers tell each other. The oars rustle? pain and churches, canals
an unknown night beckons us.
More a noise on the black trail,

The air is brewing a distant ave
true: I am a dead emperor that is taken to the tomb …
Rilke

This piece is placed under the sign of a poem by Rilke and the city of Venice – a mental cosa, fantasies and ghosts -. It is the sound experience of the gondola, its sliding, its movements in absolute silence. This mysterious atmosphere contrasts with the orchestral mass – the orchestra becomes a loud and inner sound. The musicians of the orchestra finish the piece by singing a hold note. they thus participate in an interior liturgy with an oriental energy, to accompany with a dis-articulated dance the cortege of a “dead emperor who is taken to the tomb”.. Constants and variants

“It seems that the Orient / Occident landmarks are not fundamental, essential to” receive “the work.It is perceived as a journey, is already sufficient itself as such. From our point of view, the approach can so also be inverse, from the title to go to soundscapes that each will decline according to his personal culture, his lived, to the surprising vocal participation of the instrumentalists.Plusieurs angles of approach are possible, which is to take in this case as a rich diversity.” Paul-Philippe Meyer, musicologist, University of Haute Alsace
