Zàrani (cycle)

ZARANI (cycle)

60′ – 2002
cycle for contralto, oud, piano and percussion

Zàrani is exactly between the spell and the poetic collection. Fadia Tomb El-Hage, offers her rare, dark and feline stamp to these Arab-Andalusian mouwashahs, some very old, written or rethought by Zad Moultaka, chiseled with lute and percussion, prolonged by the presence of the piano. Commissioned by the Beiteddine Festival (Lebanon 2002), this work, which will be re-enacted in France in 2004, marks a turning point in the musician’s writing, a subtle synthesis between Western writing, melodic linearity and the scales of the Oriental modes. The art of detail is that of these intricate embroidery. Hence these feelings of drunkenness, at the edge of the sensual and the spiritual, hence this feeling of spell.
